A Look At The Oscar Nominated Screenplays Of 2017 (Reviews Coming)

It’s that time of year again, OSCAR TIME!!

I’m actually a pretty big nerd about watching the Globes and the Oscars.

Some people may hate the self-congratulating, overly-social-conscious-to-the-point-of-it-getting-annoying (see the Globes for what I mean #wegetittheresachangecoming!), but I enjoy watching them, and make a point (or try) to watch all the nominated films before the big night. For the full list of Oscar 2018 nominations go here.

I’ve never actually done anything like this before, plus I haven’t actually seen all of the nominated films yet, but I thought it would be cool to take a took at all of the screenplays that were good enough to get a nod from Mr. Oscar to see what we can learn from them. But first here are the nominees (click poster to read script).

The Oscar 2018 Nominees For Best Original Screenplay Are:

Get Out, written by Jordan Peele

Lady Bird, written by Greta Gerwig

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, written by Martin McDonagh

The Shape of Water, written by Guillermo del Toro & Vanessa Taylor

The Big Sick, written by Kumail Nanjiani & Emily V. Gordon

The Oscar 2018 Nominees For Best Adapted Screenplay Are:

The Disaster Artist, written by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, based on the book by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell

Logan, written by Scott Frank & James Mangold and Michael Green, story by James Mangold

Mudbound, written by Virgil Williams and Dee Rees, based on the novel by Hillary Jordan

Call Me by Your Name, written by James Ivory

Molly’s Game, written by Aaron Sorkin

NOTE: I was going to write one big article here about each script and film, but now it makes more sense to write an article for each one, as I still haven’t seen every film.

Stay tuned as I update this article to link to the reviews.

Keep writing,

– Tim
